Switch from Luminate to Soapbox Engage and Salesforce Nonprofit Starter Pack transformational for nonprofit

Transformations that radically improve a nonprofit’s ability to meet its mission can often happen in unexpected ways. Just ask Anthony Moss, Web and Database Manager for Action for Healthy Kids:

“We didn’t have a desire to redesign our website. We just wanted to move over our existing site from Convio Luminate to a new platform,” said Moss. “You almost had to be an expert with Convio to do anything with our previous system. That was no good for us.”
Action for Healthy Kids fights childhood obesity, undernourishment and physical inactivity by helping schools become healthier places so kids can live healthier lives. They work with chapters across the country to mobilize thousands of teachers, students, moms, dads, school wellness experts and other concerned citizens to raise healthier kids.

Soapbox Engage had been recommended to them and it was Moss’ task to vet that recommendation along with other alternatives. One of those alternatives was to shift to another Convio product.

“We thought about going with Common Ground. Thank goodness we didn’t!” said Moss, referring to the announcement of Common Ground’s end of life that occurred not long after their decision.

As Moss considered alternatives and compared price tags, a suspicion led to an unexpected opportunity:

“I didn't think we were allocating our resources appropriately,” stated Moss.

In place of the constituent relationship management services provided by Convio, Action for Healthy Kids opted to switch to Salesforce.com and the Nonprofit Starter Pack, leveraging the ten free licenses provided to nonprofits by the Salesforce.com Foundation and drastically cutting costs. For their website, they chose Soapbox Engage and its suite of online engagement services integrating with Salesforce.com. With the funds saved in recurring monthly fees paid to Convio, they were able to include a full website redesign with Engage and have change to spare.
